Large, dense, evergreen with scale-like foliage rather than needles. Grows to 100 feet or more. Moist to wet sites, tolerates some shade when young. Excellent hedging, screening in landscapes with ample room. Native American uses: poles, lodges, canoes, bark for rope and blankets, roots for basketry.
