Very adaptable tree, naturally found along river banks and in the swamplands of the eastern US, the River Birch is the most adaptable and borer-resistant of the Birches. Does well in acidic, loamy, moist, sandy or clay soils. Will also tolerate moderate drought and flooding. Glossy green leaves, turning yellow in the fall are showy against the unique cream colored, curling, peeling bark with salmon-red or cinnamon colored inner layers.
