Description
An upright bushy shrub to 3′ tall. Spine-tipped branches make this a good cover plant protecting small birds and mammals from predators. Grows best in dry, desert type areas with sandy or gravelly soil. Palatable and nutritious food source for big game and livestock throughout the winter. Male and female plants are separate, with the female flower bracts turning red with age.
