Description
A dense shrub, typically 6′, but as large as 8′ in prime conditions, spreading by rhizomes and creating large clumps. No thorns. Maple shaped leaves with white flowers May – July followed by red, tart, raspberry-type fruits that are edible and used to make jam. The fruits are very soft and do not handle well. Native Americans used these as a source of Vitamin C, and to treat wounds as well as many other ailments.
