Daisy-like yellow centered flowers with petals ranging from light pink or white to a pale blue from May through August sit atop 12-18″ hairy stalks. Grows naturally in dry slopes and plains amongst the sagebrush, preferring full sun and well-drained soil.

CAREX PRAEGRACILIS – Clustered Field Sedge 10 cubic inch

One of the most versatile and adaptable of the wetland species, the Clustered Field Sedge grows up to approximately 12-16″, spreading by rhizomes to form a thick groundcover. It will tolerate occasional mowing to create a turf-like appearance and can be a water-wise substitute for the traditional grass turf. Inundation, drought, heat, cold and foot traffic don’t slow it down much either. An excellent choice for meadow restoration, it is also a good forage species for livestock. Commonly found along disturbed roadsides, where it benefits from the road-salt application and is commonly one of the first to regrow after fire.

Aka Venus Penstemon, has lavender to purple blooms, 1-3′ tall with an 18″ spread. Naturally found on sunny, open slopes of mountain valleys up to 6000′. Needs well-drained soil in full sunlight. Hummingbirds love this one.

A favorite of the “three B” pollinators: bees-birds-butterflies! The Wasatch Penstemon has bright blue-violet flowers, 1-3′ tall, appearing April – July. Found natively in dry mountain clearings with full sun and well drained soil.

SARCOBATUS VERMICULATUS, Greasewood 10 cubic inch

The Greasewood is a very spiny, upright, woody, multi-branched 3-6′ shrub. White branches, topped with bright green finely textured leaves typically have a salt crust on them. Blooms March-August. Grows well in partial shade and well drained, alkaline soils, occuring naturally in lower valley bottoms with seasonally higher water levels. Has noted toxicity to sheep, but not other grazers.
